TheGrio.com will present an unprecedented content offering throughout the month of February and beyond to celebrate Black History - past, present, and future. In partnership with NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, and msnbc.com, TheGrio.com will present what will be the most robust offering of multi-media Black History content anywhere on the web.
TheGrio's new 'Our History' section will feature news stories, commentary, and hundreds of video clips, including footage from NBC News' rich archives. Because Black History is made every day, the 'Our History' section will be a permanent fixture on the site and will consistently feature new content year round.
To honor the future of African-American history, TheGrio.com will also launch "TheGrio’s 100: History Makers in the Making." This exclusive list highlights the next generation of African-American history makers and industry leaders. The 100 individuals selected, each with their own path to success, are from 10 fields including business, education, sports, science and the environment, media, service and activism, politics, health, pop culture, and the arts. The individuals, selected by TheGrio’s editorial team with input from a team of experts and NBC News, have the potential to make a difference in the lives of all Americans in the future.
Kicking off on "Meet the Press" on Sunday, January 31 and running through February 6, individuals from "TheGrio’s 100" will be featured on all platforms of NBC News, including "Today" and "NBC Nightly News."
During the month of February, theGrio.com visitors will also be able to highlight trailblazers in their own lives and communities as 'History Makers in the Making.' With msnbc.com's 'FirstPerson’ technology, these selected individuals will also be featured on theGrio.com.
In addition to original video profiles and other exclusive video content, theGrio.com will aggregate Black History-related videos from several NBC partners. NBC Learn, NBC News Channel and NBC affiliates across the country will contribute dozens of videos to the 'Our History' section of the site.
TheGrio.com is the first video-centric news community site devoted to providing African-Americans with stories and perspectives that appeal to them but are underrepresented in existing national news outlets. TheGrio features aggregated and original video packages, news articles, and opinion on topics from breaking news, politics, health, business, and entertainment, which concern its niche audience.
