In an upcoming "Dateline," a class of medical residents at Arkansas Children's Hospital gives unprecedented access to NBC News' Chief Medical Editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman and filmmakers Brent and Craig Renaud for one year as they embark on their residency. It's an intense and emotional time filled with failure and success, insecurity, confidence and no sleep - and it's all on camera in "The Heroes of Children’s Hospital," airing this Sunday, Jan. 31 (7:00 p.m./e.t.).
In the moving and candid hour-long report, viewers will get to see the realities of becoming a doctor, in and out of the hospital. Snyderman, who was the first female surgeon ever on staff at Arkansas Children's Hospital, interviews residents about their personal experience and reports on what happens every day, what makes up their reported 80-hour work weeks, how they stay awake through it, and where medicine turns into miracles.
