Us Weekly claims Gyllenhaal was pushing for marriage with the actress, who has two children – Ava, 10, and Deacon, 6 — with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have split, according to Us Weekly.

The mag claims Gyllenhaal was pushing for marriage with the actress, who has two children – Ava, 10, and Deacon, 6 — with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

“She felt pressured to wed again — but she wasn’t ready,” a source told the mag.

“She couldn’t give Jake enough, and she got cold feet,” the source added. “From the beginning, Jake wanted all of her, and she knew he deserved someone who could give him that. He wanted to be together at all times, and it became a lot for her to juggle with work and the kids. When it comes down to it, she isn’t ready to get married and he is.”

Witherspoon instigated the breakup, the source said, but it was “mutual and amicable.”

The Oscar winning actress reportedly felt “like she wasn’t giving her kids enough (energy)” because of her relationship with Gyllenhaal, the source told the mag.

Another source told Us Weekly that the split, which occurred in early December “broke [Gyllenhaal’s] heart.”

Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon began dating in March 2007.

While his romance may be over, Gyllenhaal has plenty of work to keep him busy.

The actor’s film “Brothers,” alongside Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire, just hit theaters on limited release, and his highly anticipated “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” is due out next year.

As for Witherspoon, she is attached to star in an untitled James L. Brooks romantic comedy, co-starring Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson, slated for release in December 2010.

Stephen Colbert has joined the legions of athletes and swimsuit models to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

The host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” appears on the front of the magazine’s latest issue wearing an Olympic speedskating uniform. The issue is devoted to sports media. It’s on newsstands Wednesday.

In November, devoted Colbert fans known as the Colbert Nation became the official primary sponsor of U.S. Speedskating. The team’s largest annual cash sponsor, DSB Bank NV, left the team in the lurch after it declared bankruptcy in October.

With contributions from fans, more than $250,000 has been raised.

Colbert has made Olympics-related material a nearly nightly fixture on his show.

Other celebrities have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, including late actor Bob Hope in 1963 and comedian Chris Rock in 2000.
