Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials said five state parks have been closed due to flooding.

All or part of George Wyth, Ledges, Walnut Woods, Dolliver and Wilson Island state parks are closed.

“It’s an unfortunate side to having state parks along our rivers, but the benefits of these tremendous natural areas far outweigh the occasional inconvenience of flooding,” said Greg Van Fosson, supervisor of state parks at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources State Parks Bureau. “We are all hoping for dry weather so we can re-open the parks and start the clean up and preparation work for the spring season."

Van Fosson said the closures come just six weeks before the begin of camping season.

"A nice long stretch of dry weather would be a welcome sight," said Van Fosson.
