At least 18 people were killed and 50 injured in a fire at a Bangladesh clothes factory on Thursday, local television channels said.

The fire raged for over two hours at Garib and Garib Newaj Garment factory in the town of Gazipur some 30 miles north of the capital, Dhaka. Fire services said 18 workers were seriously injured, including 13 women.

Fires often kill large numbers of workers in clothes factories in Bangladesh. Clothing is the country's largest export sector.
