The FBI is investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman found in her room on a cruise ship.

FBI special agent Shauna Dunlap told The Associated Press on Saturday night that authorities are trying to determine whether the woman's death aboard the Carnival Ecstasy was the result of foul play. She declined to identify the woman.

Dunlap says an autopsy is being conducted and that investigators expect to have the results within the week.

The ship's operator, Carnival Cruise Lines, says in a statement that the woman's body was found Tuesday. Carnival said a preliminary FBI investigation found no cause of death.

The Carnival Ecstasy left Galveston on Monday and returned Saturday.
