Former Vice President Dan Quayle says his son is running for Congress in Arizona.

The running mate of former President George H.W. Bush announced Friday on Fox News that Ben Quayle plans to run for the U.S. House seat being vacated by retiring Republican Rep. John Shadegg.

Quayle, who is a lawyer, enters a crowded field of Republicans interested in the seat, including former state Sens. Pamela Gorman and Jim Waring, former state Rep. Sam Crump and Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker.

The only Democrat in the race so far is Phoenix lawyer and businessman Jon Hulburd.

Ben Quayle did not immediately respond to a message left by the Associated Press at his Scottsdale law office.
