Aviation officials say the landing gear collapsed on a SkyBahamas commuter plane shortly before passengers were scheduled to board.

The Bahamas Civil Aviation Department says nobody was hurt in Thursday's incident in Nassau, which occurred as the pilot was making safety checks on the 33-passenger Saab 340A turboprop. The plane was damaged, however.

SkyBahamas Ltd. CEO Randy Butler says the collapse was an isolated incident and does not reflect the overall quality of the airline. He told the Nassau Tribune on Friday that the passengers were flown to their destination in Abaco on other aircraft.

The Civil Aviation Department said it is investigating.
