Moorestown police warn of break-ins

MOORESTOWN - A continuing number of overnight vehicle break-ins in the Laurel Creek section have prompted a warning from the township's director of police, Harry E. Johnson.The most recent occurred about 4:30 a.m. Thursday when a woman told police she saw a man on her front yard who was picked up by someone driving a late-1990s two-door sports vehicle with a loud exhaust.Shortly after the car left, she heard her vehicle's alarm, Johnson said Thursday.Johnson reminded residents to not leave vehicles unlocked or valuables inside, especially in plain view. Items commonly taken include GPS units, laptop computers, purses and wallets. He said homeowners who keep their vehicles in garages should keep the doors closed.Anyone who sees anything suspicious or hears an alarm activated should call 911 immediately.For more information, contact the township police's criminal investigations division at 856-914-3039 or detectives@moorestownpd.com.MOUNT LAUREL - A township police officer was injured and a Camden County man jailed after an altercation.Troy Gibson, 26, of Lawnside, was stopped at 9:24 a.m. Sunday on Atrium Way for a motor vehicle violation, police said Thursday.Gibson got out of his vehicle, struggled with the officer and ran away. Police chased Gibson to the Comfort Inn on Crawford Place and went to a room where they believed he was hiding.Gibson tried to escape by jumping from a second-floor window. He was captured in the parking lot and taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the fall, police said.Gibson was charged with resisting arrest, hindering apprehension and criminal mischief. He was placed in Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly in lieu of $20,000 bail. Police learned Gibson was wanted on unspecified warrants out of Trenton and Camden. The officer, who was not named, suffered a minor hand injury.
