A skit during a pep rally at Brother Martin High School is drawing criticism from parents, students and education leaders.
The skit was supposed to be a play on the "Batman: Dark Knight" movie because their opponents were the St. Augustine purple knights.
However, some people say the incident had racial undertones.
The Brother Martin students dressed up like St. Augustine High School students with stockings over their faces. Then, at the end of the skit, one student pretended to arrest another student dressed in the St. Augustine outfit.
Thursday night, the St. Augustine principal, the Rev. John Raphael released a statement on the matter.
"It’s no problem to spoof schools, but having them in the St. Augustine uniform would have sufficed," he said. "I've spoken to the folks over at Brother Martin. They have apologized and I have accepted. Our schools are going to come together and make this a learning experience."
Brother Martin administrators released a statement to parents saying, "We acknowledge that some of the images from the skit that appeared on our Web site caused offense and hurt in the community. We have offered our sincere apology through Rev. John Raphael. We have always appreciated our great relationship with St. Augustine High School and have the utmost respect for their institution, their mission and the members of their school community."
