Mass. sales tax hike takes effect Saturday

Shoppers have one more day to pick up big purchase items before the sales tax hike in Massachusetts begins.

The 25 percent sales tax increase takes effect Saturday. The state sales tax will jump from five percent to 6.25 percent.

There will be no sales tax holiday this summer. A plan for a sixth annual tax holiday was ruled out on Wednesday.
