Inmates leaving Alabama prisons now have access to a re-entry program previously reserved for those with HIV/AIDS.
In the past, prisoners at the end of their sentences were sent back into the free world with minimal assistance, not the in-depth services the inmates with HIV and AIDS had received.
The expanded Alabama Prison Initiative allows all inmates to be in enrolled in classes up to three months before they leave, learn how to establish their lives outside of prison and get practical tips that will hopefully help keep them from returning.
The program helps inmates obtain important personal documents and assists them in finding jobs and housing before they’re
released.
