A former CIA officer has been indicted on charges of sexually assaulting a woman while posted in Algeria.

The man, Andrew Warren, was fired from the CIA earlier this year.

Court papers filed in Washington federal court in January say two Algerian women came forward separately to say they had been sexually assaulted by the man while at his home in Algiers.

The indictment handed up by a federal grand jury in Washington on Tuesday addresses only one count of sexual abuse. It says the alleged victim was not conscious at the time.

One of the Algerian women claimed that she was drinking at a party at the man's home when something made her suddenly ill and she passed out. She awoke believing she had had intercourse but no memory of it.
