Three men are facing murder charges in the death of a man shot in the head more than 14 years earlier.
The Orange County district attorney's office says Scott Sittler was shot and paralyzed in September 1994. He lived on a respirator in care facilities until he died of pneumonia in February.
Brothers Erwin and Giovanny Sanchez and Daniel Cruz pleaded guilty to attempted murder in 1996.
On Monday, prosecutors charged them with murder with an allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a gang. They could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Two of the men are in prison. Giovanny Sanchez was deported to Guatemala and authorities plan to seek his extradition.
