A few days have passed since Channel 13 and 1,700 other television stations around the United States made the switch to digital television (DTV), but the transition hasn't gone smoothly for everyone.

A few common issues keep jumping to the attention of WTHR, so we've turned to "Dr. D" from IndyDTV.com for some help.

"The one issue we've found is that a few brands of sets/boxes require that you delete the old Channel 13's (digital channels 13.1, 13.2 and 13.3) out of the set before rescanning for the set to "take" the new channels," Dr. D says. "This applies to viewers in good locations with good antennas and otherwise with good reception, that you would expect to have good WTHR DTV 13 reception."

Some viewers have mentioned that they're receiving digital channels 13.2 and 13.3, but not the "main" WTHR channel at 13.1.

"Getting 13.2 and 13.3, but not 13.1, means that the viewer really is getting 13.1 - 13.1, 13.2 and 13.3 all are one "package" - but their set is not displaying 13.1," said Dr. D. "Deleting all Channel 13's, power cycling the receiver and rescanning will probably resolve any corrupt data in the receiver and let them display of 13.1."

A number of viewers in Bloomington and the southern parts of the Channel 13 viewing area have mentioned trouble tuning in channels with the new digital format. The hilly, tree-lined geography of southern Indiana is likely to blame.

"For those Monroe County and other somewhat distant viewers the answer is a big tall antenna and amplifier," Dr. D said.
