The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is ready to show off its latest addition, a baby Asian elephant born last week.
Beginning Friday, the pint-size pachyderm will be out for public view in the Midwestern zoo's elephant habitat for just a few hours a day, The Columbus Dispatch reported Friday.
Zoo spokeswoman Patty Peters says it's a rare opportunity to see a nearly newborn elephant.
A 23-year-old elephant named Phoebe gave birth to the nearly 300-pound (135-kilogram) male calf a week ago. The zoo is holding a contest to name the youngster and is taking suggestions in its Web site until April 20. The winning name will be announced on May 10, which is Mother's Day in the United States.
