Contact: Adventure Center, 800/228-8747, adventurecenter.com.

Why it's a deal: The trip price breaks down to $162 per person per night, and that includes accommodations, the services of a guide and most meals. Consider also that we spotted a similar package from Active Journeys for the heftier price tag of $1,750 per person — and its walks aren't even guided.

Trip highlights: You'll be based in Bocognano at a small, family-run inn such as the Hotel Beauséjour. Bocognano is in the center of Corsica, a 115-mile-long island in the Mediterranean that belongs to France. The island also has an Italian feel; it was occupied by Italian troops during World War II and is just north of Sardinia.

From Bocognano, you'll take a train to various parts of the central highlands for five different guided walking tours. Your mileage will depend on group size and ability. Expect stunning views of the Mediterranean, the pink granite rocks of the western coast, small villages, beaches and majestic peaks.

You'll eat breakfasts and dinners — consisting of local specialties like charcuterie, brocciu cheese and game — at the hotel; Hotel Beauséjour has a spacious dining room with 1930s decor.

More: Add nights from $53 per person. There's an optional trip by train to the beaches of Ajaccio, along the west coast, for $12 per person.

Before you go: Adventure Center offers a complimentary bus transfer from the airport in Ajaccio to Bocognano; departure times will depend on group size. They can also help you book your flight into Corsica. For more ideas on what to do, visit Corsica's official tourism site.
