Three Hong Kong teenagers have been arrested for possession of explosives, and tests were being made to determine if the material was the same type used in the deadly 2005 London subway bombings, police said Sunday.
The arrests came after one of the youths set off a homemade bomb and almost had his hand blown off Saturday.
Police spokesman Lawrence Li said experts were trying to confirm that the explosive used by the boys, ages 13 and 14, is triacetone triperoxide, known as TATP.
Hong Kong's Apple Daily newspaper quoted chief inspector Chan Wai-man as saying the explosive is believed to be TATP and that the boys learned how to make it on the Internet.
TATP was used by the four suicide bombers who killed 52 commuters in London in 2005.
