A second transit employee wounded when a co-worker opened fire at a city bus depot has died, authorities said Wednesday.

A second transit employee wounded when a co-worker opened fire at a city bus depot has died, authorities said Wednesday.

Michael Stevenson, 55, died Tuesday afternoon at University of California, San Diego Medical Center, about 11 hours after the shootings, the medical examiner's office said on its Web site. The other worker, Benjamin Mwangi, died at the scene.

The gunman, Lonnie Glasco, was shot and killed by police when he started to point his gun at them, authorities said.

‘Nobody's going to leave’
Glasco, 47, had finished his shift at the Metropolitan Transit System complex shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday. He walked into a lounge area and shouted "nobody's going to leave," police Capt. Jim Collins said.

He headed out to a parking lot and fired several shots. Arriving officers found Mwangi, 37, dead and Glasco holding a handgun. Glasco ignored repeated demands to drop the weapon and used his other hand to make a cell phone call, Lt. Kevin Rooney said.

"When the call ended, he started to raise the gun at the officers and they shot him," Rooney said.

Indication of motive
Employees alerted officers to the second victim, Stevenson, a 55-year-old bus mechanic, who was found critically wounded in an office.

Rooney said investigators have an indication of the motive for the shooting, but he declined to elaborate. Officers couldn't hear what he said during the cell phone call, and investigators were trying to figure out whom he called.

Glasco was a mechanic on automated bus fare boxes who had worked for MTS for about 30 years, agency spokesman Rob Schupp said. Stevenson had worked for the transit system for 31 years and Mwangi had been a foreman for about four years, Schupp said.
