The EU Commission says it has formed a coalition with police, Internet providers, banks and credit card companies to crack down on those who sell or buy child pornography online.
EU Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Jacques Barrot says the EU will provide $538,000 in funds to help the group coordinate the joint efforts. The new coalition was announced Tuesday.
Law enforcement, financial institutions and child rights groups from across the 27-nation bloc will help to protect victims and locate and arrest criminals, including pedophiles. They will also try to stop electronic payment for child pornography online.
EU officials say credit card slips, bank statements and Internet service contracts can help arrest suspects and shut down exploitative Web sites.
