Unemployment rates are going up in just about every corner of Wisconsin.

Statistics released by the Department of Workforce Development on Wednesday show joblessness went up in March in all 12 metropolitan areas and 64 out of 72 counties.

Statewide, the unemployment rate rose to 9.4 percent in March from 8.8 percent the month before. That's the highest rate in 26 years and amounts to about 290,000 people without jobs.

The hardest hit metropolitan area is Janesville, where the unemployment rate went up to 13.5 percent last month. The rate in the Milwaukee area shot up to 9 percent.

The Madison area has the lowest rate at 6.4 percent.
