The deal
For travelers who postponed last year’s trip to Europe because of high gas prices, the long wait has finally paid off. During these difficult economic times, a number of airlines are launching fare sales to Europe to encourage tourism, causing the cost of airfare to drop as low as $110 each way.
The dollar is seeing a better exchange rate than it has in years against the euro and the pound, so visitors won’t be shelling out double for those souvenir-sized Eiffel Towers and double-decker buses. Here’s a few of our favorite fare sales for winter and spring travel.
Air France has announced jaw-dropping one-way fares from New York to Dublin starting from just $110. But that’s not all: Other destinations in Europe are seeing all-time lows as well, including flights to Paris from $228, Budapest from $213, and Istanbul from $214. Plus, you can even milk a free stop-over in Paris and enjoy two vacations for the price of one. Travel is valid through April 2, but you must book by Feb. 15.
Cozy up in an Irish farmhouse this winter by booking one of the incredible fares for February travel. Aer Lingus announced fares to Dublin and Shannon from Washington Dulles airport for as little as $149 each way. Or, take of from New York and Boston from $169, Chicago from $179, or from West Coast cities like San Francisco from $219. The airline is also offering deals to Amsterdam, Paris, London and more starting from $175. Although advertised as a February flight sale, a sample search turned up similar prices in March, including fares over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Over the past few months Iceland has been making headlines, from a failing economy to a new prime minister. Although the country is going through a rocky patch, it has become the new “it” place for budget-minded travelers. This once high-end destination is now remarkably affordable, and to lure visitors during the winter months, Iceland Air is practically giving tickets away. You can snag a round-trip flight from New York or Boston to Reykjavik from just $449. The airline also offers impressive rates to Scandinavia, including Oslo from $464, Helsinki from $554, and Copenhagen from $444.
Experience the comfort of flying the newest luxury airline, OpenSkies with this fare sale from New York to Amsterdam in Prem+ class, starting from $417 each way. The airline, which is owned and operated by British Airways, offers deluxe features like more legroom, a personal entertainment system and more. These low fares are valid for travel through May 31, but the sale ends Feb. 28.
If you’re not too keen on visiting Europe during the winter months, American Airlines is also offering a fare sale starting from $166 each way for spring travel. Sample prices include Boston to Manchester from $166, Chicago to Milan from $214, and Saint Louis to Madrid from $217. Although travel begins April 2 and is valid through May 2, these low fares will disappear by Feb. 10.
