A former military adviser to President Bill Clinton and to California's current lieutenant governor has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

The U.S. attorney's office said 67-year-old Wade Sanders admitted Monday in federal court in San Diego that he possessed a computer with more than 600 sexual images of minors.

Authorities said the computer also contained a 21-minute sex video depicting prepubescent girls.

Lt. Gov. John Garamendi's office said Sanders was Garamendi's senior adviser for veterans and military affairs and resigned the post one day after his Nov. 7 arrest. Sanders also served as deputy assistant secretary of the Navy under Clinton.

A phone line listed under a 67-year-old Wade Sanders in Sacramento was disconnected. Efforts to locate an attorney for Sanders were not immediately successful Monday night.
