Three Islamic militants on death row for the 2002 Bali bombings are to be executed next month, prosecutors said Friday.

The convicts — Imam Samudra, Amrozi Nurhasyim and Ali Ghufron — have "exhausted their legal options," Attorney General spokesman Jasman Panjaitan told reporters Friday.

The men were convicted of planning and helping to carry out the Oct. 12, 2002 suicide bombings targeting two nightclubs on the resort island of Bali that left 202 people dead, 88 of them Australian tourists.

The militants, who maintain their attacks were meant to punish the U.S. and its Western allies for alleged atrocities in Afghanistan, are to be executed by a firing squad at an island prison.

The attacks, allegedly funded by al-Qaida, were carried out by members and associates of Jemaah Islamiyah, a Southeast Asian militant group blamed for at least three other suicide bombings in Indonesia.

The last bombing occurred in 2005, killing 21 people.
