The victim, a man approximately 50 years old, died at the scene, said Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers.

The man was struck about 9:20 a.m. as the train was traveling south on the Antelope Valley line through the northern San Fernando Valley.

The fatality comes less than two weeks after a Metrolink train slammed head-on into a freight train in suburban Chatsworth, killing 25 people and injuring more than 130 others.
