Dr. Mary Case said 52-year-old Mark Knobbe committed suicide by shooting himself in the head at his home in the St. Louis suburb of Maplewood.

A Maplewood firefighter was killed by gunfire Monday outside Knobbe's house when fire crews went to extinguish a burning pickup truck. Two police officers were wounded.

Knobbe's body was identified Wednesday with the help of dental records.
