A military judge denied a defense motion to postpone the trial of former Osama bin Laden driver Salim Hamdan, the military lawyer for the defense said Friday.
Pretrial hearings are scheduled to begin July 14 with the trial itself set to begin a week later.
Hamdan’s military lawyer requested the delay. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Mizer argued the recent Supreme Court decision on Guantanamo prisoners established new rights for his Yemeni client.
On Friday, Mizer said he wanted more time to seek a dismissal of charges of supporting terrorism.
The military judge denied the motion late Thursday, Mizer said.
The trial had been scheduled to start June 2, but last month the judge rescheduled it pending the outcome of the Supreme Court decision.
