A senior police officer says a bus has overturned and caught fire in Uganda, killing 40 passengers, including four children.

A bus overturned and caught fire on Thursday, killing 40 passengers, including four children.

Many of the passengers burned to death in the accident at Kingo, 130 miles west of Kampala, the capital, said Steven Tanuyi, police chief of Masaka District.

Tanuyi said 10 people escaped the burning bus, but were severely injured. They were taken to Masaka Hospital, he said.

The accident happened when the bus driver tried to overtake a trailer, Tanuyi says.
