A Long Island dentist accused of inhaling laughing gas has been arrested.

Suffolk County police arrested Dr. Norman Rubin, of Shirley, on Wednesday afternoon and charged him with inhalation of hazardous inhalants, a misdemeanor.

Police were called to Rubin's Smithtown office by a patient who found the dentist in apparent distress.

Police and emergency medical technicians learned that Rubin had been inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. After being treated, Rubin was arrested. The dentist was freed on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 13.
