A West Hartford man has pleaded guilty to charges he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a teenage girl found at his home after a yearlong disappearance.

State prosecutors are recommending a 30-year prison sentence followed by 20 years probation for 42-year-old Adam Gault. His lawyer will have the right to argue for less jail time when he is sentenced on May 19.

Hartford Superior Court Judge David Gold indicated Wednesday that the prison sentence he will impose will be at least 20 years.

Gault pleaded guilty to eight charges, including second-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, risk of injury to a minor and conspiracy. Gault, 41, was arrested and charged in the teen's disappearance after police served a search warrant and found her locked in a hidden closet-like room in his house.

Authorities say the girl was 14 when she ran away from her Bloomfield home to live with Gault in 2006.

Gault's wife and another woman living with him were also arrested.

Some of the charges in the plea bargain involved another teenage girl who made similar allegations against Gault.
