A new survey of American adults’ book-reading habits finds that the Bible and other religious works are by far the most popular genre.
The Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that the Bible and religious works were read by two-thirds of those surveyed, more than all other categories.
Popular fiction, histories, biographies and mysteries were all cited by about half, while one in five read romance novels. One-fourth of those polled said they had read no books in the past year.
The poll found those likeliest to read religious books were older and married women, lower earners, minorities, less educated people, Southerners, rural residents, Republicans and conservatives.
