PONTIAC, Mich. -- School district administrators are notifying 321 employees that they won't have jobs July 1.
"With these layoffs, the district will be decimated, but we will have to make do with what we have," Elick Shorter, director of human resources, told The Oakland Press for a story published Thursday.
The layoffs come as part of an effort to shore up next year's expected $17.2 million funding shortfall. The district expects to lose as many as 1,000 students and at least $125 per student in state funding.
Union representatives say laying off district custodians, engineers and skilled-trades workers will make it difficult for the district to function.
