Two teenagers are hospitalized following a party celebrating the last day of school in Brevard County. According to authorities, the first shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Clarion Hotel on state Road 520 in Merritt Island, WESH 2 News reported.
A 17-year-old girl was shot by an unknown assailant during a party at the Club Rodeo at the hotel. It's not clear whether she was the intended victim or if she was caught in crossfire, deputies said.
Both teenagers underwent surgery early Thursday morning, and are expected to survive.
Law enforcement said when they responded to the emergency call, a 19-year-old man on the scene had a gun, and would not comply with instructions by deputies to drop his weapon, so they shot him.
Since this is a shooting involving a law enforcement officer, the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement was called in to investigate the incident.
