March 23, 2007--After two and a half years, authorities have arrested a man in connection with a double homicide in Urbandale. In August of 2004, Lisa and Terry Dilks were gunned down in their Urbandale home.
This afternoon, Urbandale police announced that Dennis Schofield is charged with the murders. Schofield is already serving an over 200-year prison sentence for the attempted murder of ten Des Moines police officers in a shootout at the Heartland Inn in Des Moines in 2005.
Local, state and federal authorities are involved in the Dilks' murder investigation, which despite today's arrest, is far from over. Today, they would not answer questions about whether they believe Schofield acted alone, whether drugs were involved, nor would they discuss a possible motive. They would only say, over the past six months, more witnesses have come forward and that today's arrest is a relief.
Police say they are still searching for Raymundo Cruz Gomez. They say he is a material witness wanted for questioning in the case. If you have any information about where he is, you're asked to call Urbandale police.
