Wasps were the weapon of choice for an Oakdale woman accused of attempting to use them to kill her ex-husband, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department said. Authorities said Angela Nellany, 50, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of soliciting murder and criminal conspiracy.
Sheriff's investigators said Nellany attempted to hire a family friend to kill the ex-husband, who is allergic to wasps.
Nellany paid the friend to carry out the scheme, but the friend instead took the money and alerted the targeted man to the plan, officials said.
Detectives said they found that the ex-husband, who was not immediately identified, was aware of rumors that Nellany was trying to kill him but did not take the stories seriously at first.
Nellany also contacted other friends and asked them to plant wasps in the man's truck, investigators said.
The ex-husband told detectives that in December some wasps had appeared in his truck, nearly resulting in a wreck. In that instance, officials said, the man had his two children in the truck and did not know about Nellany's wasp plan.
