High winds buffeted the state Monday, causing electrical power outages, toppling trees and igniting brush fires.
In Kaneohe along Oahu's Windward Coast, the back wall of Lopey's Welding shop tumbled down. No injuries were reported after the wall, estimated at 75 feet wide and 20 feet tall, collapsed.
Hawaiian Electric Co. reported some 7,700 of its customers on Oahu were without power for part of the day.
Most of the scattered outages were caused by trees hitting power lines, HECO spokeswoman Janet Crawford said.
On Kauai, the steel Hanalei Bridge was closed for nearly two hours because of a fallen power line that also apparently sparked a brush fire, officials said.
The summit building atop Haleakala National Park on Maui was closed when winds gusted to 60 mph. The wind chill made it feel like 24 degrees, park spokesman Dominic Cardea said.
The National Weather Service posted a wind advisory for various parts of all islands until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Some areas could expect 30 mph winds with gusts to more than 50 mph, it said.
A high surf advisory was also in effect for north- and west-facing shores into Tuesday afternoon, forecasters said. North shores could expect waves of 25 to 35 feet with larger sets to 45 feet. Lower waves were forecast along western shores.
The high surf combined with high tide could lead to coastal flooding, Oahu Civil Defense spokesman John Cummings said.
