President Bush and the new U.N chief sound like they want to put some past differences, such as Iraq, behind them.
They're pledging to work in unison for peace across the world's troubled areas.
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon (bahn kee moon) said in an Oval Office meeting Tuesday the partnership can't "flourish in a climate of fear and mistrust."
The optimistic words come as the White House pushes for change at the U.N. The Bush administration has complained that its bureaucracy is bloated and that it needs to streamline its procedures. Ban says he's reviewing possible changes.
The U.N chief says he'll need the support of the United States in areas such as Lebanon, North Korea and Somalia. And he calls the Middle East a "source of grave concern."
