A commuter train crashed into a work truck Tuesday, killing two members of a track maintenance crew and seriously injuring at least one other, transportation officials said.

The afternoon train was headed from Lowell to Boston with a small number of passengers, said Lydia Rivera, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

The line was shut down after the crash and officials were trying to help anyone who was hurt, Rivera said. She said authorities planned to bus rush-hour commuters on that line.

None of the passengers was injured, said Joe Pesaturo, an MBTA spokesman.
