A group of students from a tiny northern New York community got a lesson in city life when their school bus was towed away during a field trip to Albany.

The students and chaperones from Clifton Fine High School in Star Lake were visiting the Empire State Convention Center on Tuesday. When they went to board their bus for the 2 1/2-hour trip back to the Adirondacks, the vehicle was gone.

It turns out the bus driver had parked the vehicle in a private lot for an apartment building.

The bus was towed to an Albany garage where the driver had to pay $216 to get it released.

The driver said she was directed to the wrong parking lot by someone claiming to be an employee of the New York State Museum.
