There’s a California sea lion that’s either brain damaged — or frisky.
He’s bitten at least 14 people at a lagoon in San Francisco, leading officials to ban swimming there. One woman says she was minding her own business, out for a swim, when the sea lion came up to her. As she tried to swim away, it bit and bumped her repeatedly until she got out of the water.
The question is: what’s going on? Experts see two possibilities.
One is that the sea lion is brain damaged from toxic algae. The other is that he’s protecting his harem of mates.
Either way, they expect him to start swimming north, soon enough.
