Florida Highway Patrol troopers got a call shortly before 8 a.m. from someone who had spotted the bodies of a man, woman, boy and girl on the southbound shoulder of the highway, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The bodies were several miles from the nearest rest stop, and no vehicle was found nearby, the sheriff’s office said.

No additional information was immediately released. An FHP spokesman referred calls to the sheriff’s office.
