Fire raced through a house early Sunday, killing a 66-year-old man and a toddler and leaving rescuers searching for the remains of three children, authorities said.

Fire engulfed a house early Sunday, killing a 66-year-old man and a toddler and leaving rescuers searching for the remains of three children, authorities said.

One person survived and was in the hospital, officials said. All the victims are believed to be related.

The search for the three other victims has been slow because the house is unstable, said Fire Chief Mark Bradford.

The two confirmed victims were identified as Charles Glover Sr., 66, and Mariyana Johnson, 13 months.

"This is a trying time for me and the family," Charles Glover Jr. told the Lawrence Journal-World.

The fire started shortly before 1 a.m., said Fire Marshal Rich Barr. Two police officers, a deputy and a firefighter were treated and released.

Firefighters said it took nearly two hours to control the blaze. The cause was being investigated.

The house was fully engulfed when help arrived, neighbors said.
