House Speaker Dennis Hastert was released from Bethesda Naval Hospital Monday where he was treated for a bacterial skin infection, his spokesman said.

Spokesman Ron Bonjean said the 64-year-old Illinois Republican was "ready for another busy legislative week" after his release Monday afternoon. Hastert was admitted on Thursday to the hospital outside of Washington for treatment of an infection known as cellulitis.

The speaker's office described cellulitis as a bacterial infection. It appears as a swollen, red area of skin that feels hot and tender, and may spread rapidly without treatment.
