Gunmen abducted an elite Palestinian military guard in Gaza on Tuesday outside the office of a member of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ staff, then freed the trooper a short time later, security sources said.
The incident had triggered fears that the Abbas staff member had been targeted after the Palestinian leader angered militant groups by condemning a deadly suicide bombing that killed nine in Israel on Monday.
