Viktor Yanukovych’s pro-Russian party was leading with 33 percent of votes in the Ukrainian parliamentary election, an independent exit poll said Sunday.
The exit poll said the Party of the Regions was leading the field with over 33 percent, followed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s bloc with about 23 percent and President Viktor Yushchenko’s Our Ukraine bloc with less than 14 percent.
The Democratic Initiatives, International Institute of Sociology and Razumkov Center surveyed 18,000 voters from 300 precincts across the nation.
Another exit poll, conducted by the Ukrainian Sociological Service, gave Yanukovych’s party a 27.5 percent lead, followed by Tymoshenko’s bloc and the party led by Yushchenko.
