Acura
As with all Acura vehicles, occupant safety is a key design criteria and the TSX was engineered to meet or exceed all applicable safety standards.
The Acura TSX has received five star ratings (the highest possible rating) in the federal government New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) frontal barrier tests and also received the highest rating in the IIHS Offset Frontal Barrier Crash tests.
Utilizing a rigid body structure that features front and rear crumple zones to absorb impact energy, the TSX is equipped with a comprehensive list of standard safety features to help protect its occupants in the event of a collision, including:
- Advanced, dual-stage dual-threshold driver’s and front passenger’s air bag which deploys at two different rates based on the severity of the collision
- Driver’s and front passenger’s side air bags with passenger-side occupant size and position sensor system to detect if a child or small-stature adult is leaning into the airbag’s path of deployment
- Front and rear side-curtain airbags to help minimize injury during a side impact
- Three-point seat belts for all seating positions

Ford
The Ford Fusion meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Ford Motor Company designs all of its vehicles to provide customers with a high level of real-world occupant protection in a wide range of crashes, including front and side impact collisions.
While no single laboratory test condition can predict overall safety in a wide-range of real-world crashes, the side impact performance of the Ford Fusion is consistent with other moderately priced mid-size cars without side airbags.
Fusion offers optional side airbags with 2-row coverage and front-seat thorax side airbags for enhanced head and chest protection. Ford is working with the Insurance Institute, and plans to provide a Fusion with optional side airbags for testing. We expect improved side crash test performance.
Lexus
Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, has a strong interest in the results of third-party tests like those of the IIHS. We would like to emphasize that all Lexus products, including the IS, meet or exceed all federal government motor vehicle safety standards.
Our company conducts comprehensive crash tests on all of its Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicle models. This ongoing program consists of both dynamic and simulated tests and evaluations involving impacts at various angles and speeds to confirm performance in a variety of collision modes. This data developed from recent tests conducted by the IIHS is appreciated and will be closely evaluated by our engineers.
We are pleased to learn of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) recent rating for the Hyundai Sonata in the Institute’s front and side impact tests.
While Hyundai knows that improving safety is a continuing task and its engineers and designers remain committed to examining ways in the future to further improve all of our vehicles, Sonata’s score of Good in the front impact test and Acceptable in the side impact tests are a tribute to the efforts Hyundai engineers have made to provide Hyundai owners with secure vehicles for drivers, passengers and their families. --Chris Hosford, V.P., Corporate Communications
Nissan
Nissan takes its commitment to product safety and customer satisfaction very seriously. All Nissan and Infiniti vehicles are designed and engineered to meet or surpass the safety regulations established by the federal government as well as pass our own rigorous internal safety requirements. We design all of our products to provide a high level of occupant safety in a wide range of real-world crashes, including side-impact collisions.
We will continue to review, evaluate and, as necessary, take these results into consideration along with other data generated from outside sources.
Pontiac
General Motors encourages all customers to purchase side air bag protection when it is available on a vehicle. The "Acceptable" rating for the G6 sedan with side air bags attests to the value of this equipment.
Nearly every model of the Pontiac G6 sedan and coupe offers side-curtain and front seat-mounted chest-protecting air bags, and many G6 customers are selecting this protection.
In the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), both the driver and the left-rear passenger received a 5-star rating in side airbag-equipped vehicles.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) side impact test simulates a severe crash scenario – a full-sized SUV striking the driver’s side of a passenger car at 31 miles an hour.
