A mountain lion that took a nap in the backyard of a suburban Los Angeles home on Monday was tranquilized and moved in preparation for being returned to the hills above Los Angeles, animal control officers said. No one was injured.

The lion was spotted at about 7:15 a.m. PT in the Altadena neighborhood, sleeping near some garbage cans, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office. A nearby elementary school was locked down as a precaution, police said.

The lion, which weighed 65 to 70 pounds, was removed about three hours later.

Altadena, located in the Los Angeles foothills, borders the Angeles National Forest.
