THE I-R-S MAY OWE YOU MONEY BUT YOUR TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO CLAIM IT. TODAY THEY ANNOUNCED A DEADLINE TO CLAIM REFUNDS FROM 2002 -- OR LOSE THE I-R-S SAYS THEY STILL HAVE TWO-BILLION DOLLARS IN UNCLAIMED MONEY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT FILED A 2002 TAX RETURN...
MORE THAN 55-THOUSAND OF THAT BELONGS TO PEOPLE HERE IN WASHINGTON STATE.
THE DEADLINE TO MAKE THOSE CLAIMS IS APRIL 17th.
APRIL 17, 2006 IS THE LAST DAY ANYONE CAN FILE FOR THEIR 2002 TAX REFUND.
BUT THIS 3-YEAR WINDOW OF A DEADLINE IS STILL NOT ENOUGH FOR SOME...AND THEY'RE ANGRY ABOUT IT...
ALAN SHAW DOES NOT AGREE THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD KEEP UNCLAIMED REFUNDS...
"to come to the tax payers and say hey...this is money that's rightfully yours but you haven't collected it yet...so we're gonna give you a deadline and say you know what if you don't get it by this time we're takin' it...that's just not right..."
ANN HATCH WAS FILEING HER TAXES TODAY BUT STILL AGREES...
"we need our money the government shouldn't take it all"
STILL OTHERS THINK THE TIME-LIMIT IS SUFFICIENT
"it's been four years...if you haven't filed you taxes by now eventually the governments got to take some sort of action with that money...
AND THAT ALL UNCLAIMED MONEY SHOULD BE USED FOR SOMETHING...
"it's a personal responsibility to file you taxes...so i mean if your not going to file it and the money's just sitting there...why not put it to good use..."
I DID SPEAK TO THE I-R-S TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DO WANT PEOPLE TO GET THE REFUNDS THAT THEY'RE ENTITLED TO---BUT THEY FEEL THE 3-YEAR DEADLINE IS FAIR AND SAY THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN REMIND TAXPAYERS OF THE APRIL 17TH DEADLINE.
