Temperatures during March will be below normal in the Pacific Northwest and above normal in the southern part of the United States from Alabama to the Arizona-California border, the National Weather Service predicted on Thursday.
March temperatures in the Northeast, the world’s biggest heating oil market, and the rest of the East Coast have equal chances of being below normal or above normal, the agency said.
For the longer March-May period, below-normal temperatures were predicted for an area stretching from eastern Washington state and Oregon through Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and much of South Dakota to the northwestern corner of Minnesota.
Precipitation during the March-May period is forecast to be below normal for Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina and much of Alabama.
Precipitation for the three months will also be below normal in an area from southern California to the western half of Texas, then north to Kansas and southern Nebraska.
March-May precipitation was predicted to be above normal for Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and western Pennsylvania and western New York state.
