Three more people have been reported sick in an outbreak of listeria traced to bagged salads, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.
“Three more ill people have been reported from Connecticut, Missouri, and New York. The most recent illness was diagnosed on January 3, 2016,” CDC said in a statement.
The outbreak was traced to a Dole facility that makes bagged salads in Ohio. One person has died and the new illnesses make for 15 in the U.S. In addition seven people in Canada were infected with the same outbreak strain of listeria, CDC said.
The outbreak was last summer but the germ was clearly still getting into salad products until recently. The facility has now closed.
The salads were sold under various brand names, including include Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar, and President's Choice. "These packaged salads can be identified by the letter "A" at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the package,' CDC said.
“A list of the recalled brands and types of salad mixes, states where they were sold, and instructions on how to identify them are available on the Advice to Consumers page.”
